Cases: Elective back surgeries, trauma, prostate cancer, gallbladders, pediatric overflow, cellulitis; proficiency in Med/Surg care with experience using Rapid Response/Code teams 3. Certifications: BLS required; must be in hand at submission 4. License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state; active license required at submission 5. Education: Not specified 6. EMR: Epic required — HARD STOP; facility will NOT accept candidates without Epic experience 7. Shifts/Call: 3x12s, nights, 6:45p-7:15a; EOW or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block; facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; charge and preceptor duties may be required; 1:6 patient ratios 8. RTO: ALL RTO requests must be submitted with the initial submittal; travelers must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week assignment; during winter holidays, 2 holidays required (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, NYE/New Year's) 9. Returning Staff: Previous employees (per diem and permanent) must be gone a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler; effective July 1, 2025, facility does not allow travelers to return after working 365 days on assignment despite any separation period; exceptions reviewed by Carilion leadership on a case-by-case basis; travelers ending prior to July 1st are grandfathered under the previous one-year policy with a six-month break before reapplying 10. Travel/Local: Candidates residing within 100 miles of facility are considered local and are NOT accepted; calculated from Driver's License address only; Exception — Inpatient RNs at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community Hospitals: travelers 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend; travelers under 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no eligibility to extend 11.
