What’s it Like to Have a Travel Nursing Job in Illinois?
What’s the Illinois travel nursing salary like?
Pay packages can seem confusing since every travel nursing company has a different offer depending on the facility, state and other factors. Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, ranks top 12 in The Highest Paying States for RNs list.
Nursing License Requirements
Illinois is not a member of the nursing compact states (eNLC) which means travel nurses who are already licensed in a nurse compact state will have to contact the Illinois Board of Nursing and apply for licensure.
Food to try:
If a travel nurse gets to choose between going on a food trip and taking a nap, we can confidently say they’d let go of the bed to dig in instead. Include these famous Illinois goodies on your culinary bucket list!
- French-Fried Onions – Tired of the usual onion rings? Hackney’s has been around for 80 years and nobody has been able to top their loaf of crunchy goodness, yet. Don’t miss Glenview’s gem – their outdoor setting will give you a unique dining experience!
- The Rainbow Cone – Nothing screams Chicago summer like ice cream that looks and tastes so good. Everyone loves this frozen treat of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House, pistachio, and orange sherbet… all in one cone!
- Steak Jibarito – If you want to take your taste buds on an adventure, try ditching the bread in a sandwich! The Jibarito Stop stuffs meat in between two fried plantains. All the vegetarians and vegans out there, they got your back too!
Places to visit:
Jump in your car or hop on the train… no matter how you get there, it’s going to be fun! Don’t forget to bring a good camera along; Illinois is full of picturesque views.
- Anderson Japanese Garden – Did you know there’s a little Japan in the heart of Rockford? Take a break from your busy nursing shifts to experience the serenity of this 12-acre sanctuary with waterfalls, rock gardens and even a traditional tea house.
- Cloud Gate – Since 2006, the very popular Chicago landmark, nicknamed as The Bean, is an obligatory stop. Beat the crowd by visiting this giant stainless steel sculpture in the morning. You’ll also get better photos for your Insta-feed!
- Grosse Point Lighthouse – Built by the United States Government in 1873, this national landmark will make you reach your daily target number of steps. Not that working in a hospital as a travel nurse isn’t already doing that, but at least you get to see the stunning Lake Michigan after climbing 141 steps to the top of the tower!
