- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 3 years required; 18 months minimum with exceptions by unit; candidates with at least 1 year of Level I Trauma experience may be screened at 2+ years 2. Cases: GEN, Plastic, GYN, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, GU, Colorectal Robotics; must be well-rounded except CV and Transplant; Circulate required, Scrub preferred; Level I Trauma is a HARD STOP requirement 3. Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and PALS noted with asterisk; all certs per job description; copies required at submission 4. License: IN license, compact, or temp license required at time of start; must be in hand prior to start date; temp license obtainable once permanent application submitted; SSN and DOB required at time of submittal; university must be ACEN or CCNE accredited at time of graduation 5. Education: Must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited university at time of graduation 6. EMR: Cerner; no specific charting experience required for IU Health positions 7. Shifts/Call: Monday-Friday with call and/or holidays; call is 40-60 hours per 6 weeks (approximately 6 call shifts per 6-week period, may vary); holidays required; no block scheduling; float required within hospital or to affiliate hospitals 8. RTO: Up to 5 non-holiday days auto-approved; anything more requires facility approval; candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays 9. Returning Staff: Any permanent or PRN IU employee must be away for 12 months before applying as a traveler; consecutive contract policy: travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment anywhere within IU Health must take a consecutive break effective 2/24/26; out-of-state residents require a 90-day break to reset eligibility prior to year mark; in-state residents require a 180-day break to reset eligibility prior to year mark 10. Travel/Local: IN residents considered local; Surgical Services, Allied, and IU Clinics positions accept local travelers at lower bill rate; locals not accepted for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, and ER positions; $15 off bill rate for in-state travelers; effective 11/30/24, IN RNs not allowed at IU Health facilities except Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RNs (includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) 11.
