- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 2 years required for submission; 18 months minimum per compliance, with exceptions depending on unit 2. Cases: Must have 3-4 proficiency in Bariatric Surgery, Thyroidectomy, Bowel Obstruction, and CBI; experience in general surgery, urology, gynecology, and bariatric surgery required; prescreen question asks if RN has experience with voiding trials and/or urogyn surgeries 3. Certifications: BLS required; all certs per job/unit description 4. License: Must be in hand prior to start date; temporary licenses may be obtainable once permanent license application has been submitted 5. Education: University must be accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation 6. EMR: No specific charting experience required for any IU Health position 7. Shifts/Call: Patient ratio 1:6 days, nights, and weekends; weekend coverage required; 24 orientation hours; floating 100% required to other med-surg units or affiliate hospitals 8. RTO: Auto-approve up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO; anything more requires facility approval; candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; one pre-approved time off noted 9. Returning Staff: Any permanent or PRN IU employee must be away for 12 months before applying as a traveler; consecutive contract policy requires a break after 12 months of IU travel employment (effective 2/24/26, must be one consecutive period); out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break to reset eligibility 10. Travel/Local: IN residents considered local; locals NOT accepted for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, and ER positions; eligible locals offered in-state rate at lower bill rate 11.
