  • Unit Notes:OSF ITEMS OF NOTE: - Local Rate: Applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles (-$25 to regular and OT bill rates) - OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift - Non-billable Orientation Hours: 12 hours, guaranteed hours will not apply during orientation REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION: - Last four (4) digits of clinician's SSN - Clinician's middle initial - Requested time off - Active IL license or confirmation that application process has been initiated - Your candidate understands OSF is a Drug-Free Campus and they must produce a negative drug screen for all panels Department: L&D | RN - # L&D Beds: 9 LDR (procedure rooms) - # OR Suites on the unit for C-Sections: 2 OR Suites; 1 PACU. - # Triage beds: 6 L&D triage rooms (in addition, I like them to know that we have an 18 bed antepartum unit). - # Postpartum beds: 36 private rooms with an average daily adult census of 18 and infant census of 14. - Do you follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios?: 1:1 Pitocin Induction and active labor; 2 (RN):1(patient) at time of vaginal delivery and cesarean section; 1:1 PACU; 1(RN):3(Patients) L&D Triage. - Required Certifications: BLS; NRP; ACLS; must have completed advanced AWHONN EFM class. - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Pregnant patients/high risk pregnant patients; vaginal deliveries, cesarean deliveries, cerclage placement. - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in L&D. We are a level 1 trauma center, level 3 perinatal center and RNs must be proficient in care of the high-risk OB patient. Must have completed Advanced AWHONN EFM class. Must be able to care for Magnesium drips and Insulin Drips. Must be able to circulate a cesarean section in OR and recover patient in PACU. Must be proficient in baby care at both vaginal and cesarean delivery. Must have ACLS and NRP certifications. - Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin. - Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes, there is a charge nurse 24/7 in L&D who does not take a team of patients. House supervisor 24/7. - Are there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit? Duties?: We have 1 PCT in L&D Triage; We have 2 -3 Surgical Techs per shift. - OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7?: We have Labor hospitalist in house 24/7, Newborn hospitalists daily in house with NICU coverage at night in house for emergencies. - RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?: No vents outside of L&D OR. Patients who require ventilatory support are transferred to ICU. - Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: We utilize Obix for electronic fetal monitoring (Phillips monitors). RNs must have advanced AWHONN electronic fetal monitoring certification. - EFM System: Epic Stork - Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12 hours shift on both day and night. We allow block scheduling to the best of our ability or travelers. - Weekend Requirements: Every 3rd weekend; Sat/Sun on dayshift; Fri/Sat on nightshift. - Holiday Requirements Every other holiday, which is 3 per year for dayshift & 6 per year per nightshift. Dayshift- if it is not your holiday, we ask that you work the day before or the day after unless you discuss arrangements to be off with unit leadership. - Is there a call or standby requirement?: No call - Floating Requirements: RNs float to Postpartum and Antepartum units only. On postpartum, RN will take a team of 5-6 postpartum patients. On antepartum, L&D RNs will take 3 high risk, intermittent EFM monitor pregnant patients. - Scrub Color/Dress code: Surgical scrubs are provided on unit. - Unit/Department specific orientation: Typically 3 shifts of orientation - Additional Notes: We are a level 1 trauma center, level 3 perinatal center and RNs must be proficient in care of the high-risk OB patient. Must have completed Advanced AWHONN EFM class. Must be able to care for Magnesium drips and Insulin Drips. Must be able to circulate a cesarean section in OR and recover patient in PACU. Must be proficient in baby care at both vaginal and cesarean delivery. Must have ACLS and NRP certifications.
