- Unit Notes:Will be floated between 2 critical care and stepdown units Unit Details # of beds 24 in ICU, 26 in PCU Ratios 2:1 (at times 3:1 depending on acuity), 4:1 on PCU Required Certifications ACLS, BLS Common diagnoses/Types of patients Cardiac patients post CABG or PCI, sepsis, DKA, respiratory failure Experience or 'Must have' skills Critical Care experience Are RNs required to titrate drips? yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips Levophed, amiodarone, heparin, precedex, propofol, cardene, nitro, neosynephrine, dopamine, etc Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Charge on floor, HS on each shift for hospital Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios No aids normally in ICU, 1-2 in PCU per shift Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Intensivist in house during day; hospitalists all hours RT in ICU 24/7 yes RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Vents, Bipap, Airvo Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Bedside monitors, monitor bank at charge desk, Monitor Tech on site Shifts & Scheduling Days 7a-7p; Nights 7p-7a--expect to work 4 shifts a week Weekend Requirement Depends on coverage--usually require every other weekend Holiday Requirement Depends on coverage Is there a call or standby requirement? No Floating Requirements Yes--expect to work either ICU or PCU with occasional floating to other departments if necessary Scrub Color/Dress Code Navy Blue scrubs Unit/Department specific orientation New Employee Orientation first week--orientation shift on each ICU and PCU Cancellation Policy:4 shifts per 13 assignment, 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks.
