- Unit Notes:OSF ITEMS OF NOTE: - Local Rate: Applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles (-$25 to regular and OT bill rates) - OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift - Non-billable Orientation Hours: 12 hours, guaranteed hours will not apply during orientation REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION: - Last four (4) digits of clinician's SSN - Clinician's middle initial - Requested time off - Active IL license or confirmation that application process has been initiated - Your candidate understands OSF is a Drug-Free Campus and they must produce a negative drug screen for all panels Department: Stepdown | RN - # Beds: 20 beds. 8 private rooms and the rest are semi-private. - Nurse: Patient Ratios: 3 to 1. - Required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS recommended. - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Care for 3 patients with a wide range of medical conditions (COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, other respiratory conditions, some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients, Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilator, trach s, trached patients on ventilators, chest tubes, g tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, etc. ... - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Travel RN's must have ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1. Progressive care or telemetry is not adequate. ICU/Intermediate nursing skills. Must have trach and vent experience (frequently see trach/vented patients on the unit). - Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes. - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: We titrate Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin and Vasopressors if low dose or infrequent titration. - Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes. Free charge nurse unless staffing is not ideal, then they may have to take patients. House supervisor 24/7. - Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?: We have 2 PCT's per shift - If unit is full, they take 10 patients each. - Drips: Yes. All of those listed. - Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: All patients are on bedside monitors. Phillips Monitors. Tele tech's interpret strips and RN's confirm. - Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hour shifts ,7-7. Would be on one shift or the other. Travel RN's work with the unit supervisor on scheduling. Yes, we do try and allow block scheduling. - Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend. Night shift is Fri/Sat and day shift is Sat/Sun. - Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday rotation. Will work companion day of major holidays. - there call or a standby requirement?: No. - Floating Requirements: Travel RN's are first to float. Can go to ICU if they have extensive ICU experience, otherwise would go to other Stepdown or Gen Med. The travel RN would take whatever assignment is required for that level of care. For example: ICU 2 patients, Stepdown 3 patients, Gen Med 5-6 patients. - Scrub Color/Dress code: any color. - Unit/Department specific orientation: 1 day for EPIC, 1 day for unit orientation with the educator, 1 day on the floor with an RN.
