- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 1.5 years required (18 months minimum, refer to job description for unit exceptions) 2. Cases: Medical-Surgical with majority medical patients (COPD exacerbation, PNA, COVID-19, chest pain, small bowel obstruction); small surgical caseload (1-3 post-surgical cases/day) including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, colectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy 3. Certifications: ACLS, BCLS required; BLS required 4. License: Must be in hand prior to start date; temporary licenses obtainable once permanent license applications submitted; IN RN licenses not allowed (except Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers) 5. Education: University must be accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation 6. EMR: Cerner experience required; no specific charting required for IU health positions 7. Shifts/Call: Every other weekend required; 1:6 patient ratio; floating 100% required within hospital or to affiliate hospitals 8. RTO: Holiday blackout 7/1-7/6; auto-approve 5 days non-holiday RTO; must work 2 out of 3 major holidays 9. Returning Staff: Any PERM or PRN employee must be away 12 months before applying as traveler; consecutive contract policy requires designated break after 12 months employment 10. Travel/Local: IN residents considered local; locals not accepted for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, ER positions; locals accepted for Surgical Services, Allied, IU Clinics at lower rate 11.
