- Unit Notes:Department: Psych RN *Certifications Required: BLS, CPI (preferred)* PROFILE REVIEW+MANAGER INTERVIEW - # of Beds: 25 licensed beds; Currently utilize 3 Adult Beds and 6 Adolescent Beds - Nurse:Patient Ratios: 3:1 Adult currently (could get up to 7 patients); 6:1 Adolescent - Patient Populations/Common diagnoses: Adolescents and Adults (travelers could work with peds one shift and adults the next, separated by a door). Most common diagnosis are depression, & anxiety, they also see substance abuse- etoh, other substances, psychosis, bipolar and schizophrenia, other behavioral or personality disorders, rare opioid withdrawal, medically cleared - Experience or 'Must have' skills Acute/inpatient or (state) hospital experience, Good de-escalation and strong communication skills, Ok with first time travelers, Prefer adolescent experience. - Do you ever have IV's on this unit? very rare IV, travelers do not have to have that experience (great if they do) - Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift?: Not always, someone will fill those duties, travelers not usually expected to be in charge role. - Do you use physical restraints on this unit? mechanical restraints (rarely) and seclusion - Are there nurse aids or mental health specialists on this unit? Ratios? Duties?: Mental health techs/aids, would qualify for 2 if the unit is full at 9 patients. Occupational therapy M-F and OT assistant, social work etc. - Is RT available if needed? If patients have oxygen or need treatments does RT do these? RT in house and comes to unit, Cpap or Bipap at night, and some oxygen support - Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? No - Shifts & Scheduling: 7a-7p, 7p-7a; 7a-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a - self scheduling based off seniority, and union hospital, manager to balance it, try to accommodate block scheduling if able - Weekend Requirements: Every other - Holiday Requirements: Every other - Is there call or a standby requirement? n/a - Floating Requirements: Throughout the hospital as helping hands or 1:1s - Scrub Color/Dress Code any color except maroon color. Business causal as well - How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation?: 2 - 12 hour shifts - Additional Notes: Only child/adolescent inpatient unit in the region. Locked unit, on 4th floor of hospital. They have emergency buttons for code blue, in hospital security, and code yellow for extra staff support, life safety desk, etc. Expect nurses to be doers, assisting with 15 minute rounds and being really involved in the patient care, not just sitting at nurses station. - Attributes that help make a nurse successful in this unit: patience and slow to anger Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity. RTO needed upfront (7 or less days per 13 week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved, including after submissions.
