- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 1 year required; previous charge experience preferred 2. Cases: Neurological conditions, neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, neuro-specific diagnoses, medical overflow, 24-hour epilepsy monitoring (5 dedicated beds) 3. Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required; must be in hand at time of submission 4. License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state 5. Education: Not specified 6. EMR: Epic experience required 7. Shifts/Call: 3x12s, 6:45a-7:15p; EOW or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block; facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; must work 1 holiday per 13-week contract (2 holidays required during winter: Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, NYE/New Year's); floating required within clinical skillset 8. RTO: All RTO must be submitted upfront with the submission; block scheduling can be accommodated; up to two pre-approved time off days 9. Returning Staff: Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must be gone a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler. Effective July 1, 2025, travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return regardless of separation period (exceptions reviewed case by case). Travelers ending prior to July 1st are grandfathered under the previous one-year policy with a six-month break before reapplying. 10. Travel/Local: Candidates within 100 miles of the facility are considered local and are NOT accepted. Exception: Inpatient RNs at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community Hospitals — travelers 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend; travelers under 50 miles may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no eligibility to extend 11.
