- Unit Notes:***MEDSOL PROFILE REIVEW / MANAGER INTERVIEW *** Mother Baby Boise Hospital Flr 8 # Postpartum beds 32 maternal beds room for 32 babies/couplet care # Births per day? Month? Year? about 350-400 per month Do you follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios? Goal of 3 couplets per nurse or 1:6 ratio, Mag patients would only be 1:4 ratio Rare occasion to have 4 couplets with a discharge or could have a set of twins for odd ratios Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS NRP STABLE Common diagnoses/Types of patients Post Partum, Magnesium drips, some higher risk maternal patients for the area, twins, well babies only (otherwise go to NICU), c-section (no GYN surgical patients beyond tubals etc.), and circumcision, frenectomy patients Experience or 'Must have' skills Must Have: experience in similar setting if traveler only has 1 year of experience. Prefer: Magnesium and 2 years of experience Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips Magnesium, Pitocin per Postpartum protocols Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse free of assignment Are there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit? CNAs and unit clerk/health unit coordinator. Locked unit Days have a discharge nurse to assist with education Also have lactation consultants, use ABM model Contracted staff to do hearing screens, photography and car seat safety, does newborn screenings, and lab does some newborn metabolic screenings. OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7? Neonatologist in NICU 24/7- will come for emergencies Newbornist/ APP during the day- available 24/7 Obstetrics/ hospitalist in house- available for emergencies Anesthesia in house 24/7? Yes in house 24/7 RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc.) Moms on occasional oxygen, if baby needs more than supplemental oxygen during resuscitation would go to NICU Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Rare to have patient on tele, some moms with cardiac history Charting System Epic Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12 hour shifts 7a-730 & 1900-0730, travelers to be placed wherever needed, managers to make the schedule. Placed in gaps in schedule Weekend Requirements EOW or as needed Holiday Requirements Yes, expected to work Holidays as needed Is there a call or standby requirement? No, sometimes potential to pick up Floating Requirements? Yes we float to the Meridian, Nampa hospitals to take like patient assignments, and have to sit with pts on other floors occasionally. Scrub Color/Dress code Any color, solid or print, clean and respectable scrubs, closed toed and heeled (no crocks) Unit/Department specific orientation travelers to first to float Nampa and Meridian as well as first to sit 2-3 shifts of orientation Cancellation Policy:Hospital may cancel up to 4 times per 13 week contract. Each cancellation could be a full shift or any part of a shift. (Hospital may also pay full hours for a particular shift, in lieu of cancellation).
