- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 3 years required per system; 18 months minimum per facility policy; must have strong transplant experience within the last 2 years; liver transplant (recipient procedures) is a HARD STOP requirement 2. Cases: Liver transplant (recipient scrubbing independently required), Large Open Belly Cases, General, Urology, Thoracic, Gyn, Aseptic Technique, Plastics, Whipple, Liver Resection, Free Flap; daily average surgical case volume of 35 3. Certifications: BLS and NBSTSA required; copies must match job/unit description 4. License: Must be in hand prior to start date; temporary licenses may be obtainable once permanent license application is submitted; SSN and DOB required at time of submittal; university must be accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation 5. Education: University must be accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation 6. EMR: Cerner preferred; no specific charting required for any IU Health positions 7. Shifts/Call: 3 shifts, 12-hour nights (7p-7:30a); 40-60 hours of call per 6-week schedule; holidays required; candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; float required within hospital or to affiliate hospitals, including Riley for pediatric transplant 8. RTO: Auto-approve up to 5 non-holiday days; anything more requires facility approval; candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays 9. Returning Staff: Any PERM or PRN IU employee must be away for 12 months before applying as a traveler; consecutive contract policy requires a designated break after 12 months of IU travel employment (break cannot be split); out-of-state residents require 90-day break; in-state residents require 180-day break to reset eligibility 10. Travel/Local: Indiana residents considered local; locals accepted for Surgical Services, Allied, and IU Clinics positions at lower in-state bill rate; locals NOT accepted for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, or ER; effective March 1, 2026, Indiana residents are no longer eligible to sign new contracts at IU Health University in OR RN (including Transplant), OR CST (including Transplant), PACU, Pre-Op/Same Day Surgery, or Sterile Processing Technician roles 11.
