- Unit Notes:Unit NICU/Nursery Level of NICU Level II - take down to 30 week infants - have telehealth neonatology for 30-32 weeks and partner with pediatricians for 32 and above # of beds 11 beds - 9 rooms Ratios depends on acuity - up to 1:2/3 if feeder growers Required Certifications BLS, NRP Common diagnoses/Types of patients early gestation, Experience or 'Must have' skills: PREFER charge RN for a level 2 NICU Must be: Comfortable being baby nurse at delivery. Experience where they "go for babies" at delivery and c-sections. Know how to run bubble cpap, ventilators, new newborn admissions, Are RNs required to titrate drips? yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips fluids, tpn, blood, Charge Nurse/House Supervisor would like charge RN experience Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios no Neonatologist in house 24/7? NNP in house 24/7 RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) vents, cpap - respiratory runs Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? monitors on the unit - RN reads the monitor strips Shifts & Scheduling 630p-7a Weekend Requirement every 3rd weekend and help fill an empty weekend Holiday Requirement rotating holidays Is there a call or standby requirement? may be placed on call if patient volumes are low. Only 2 RN's scheduled per shift. Only time we don't have 2 NICU nurses in-house is if there are no patients in L&D and minimal to no patients in the NICU Floating Requirements May have to float to Postpartum if the NICU is closed/ rare.
