- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 2 years required in the last 5 years; first-time travelers accepted 2. Cases: Orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, subdural hematoma, neurological trauma/nerve damage, CVA, surgical overflow; must be comfortable with heparin drips, PCA, colostomy care, feeding tube care, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, wound care, phlebotomy, IV starts, management of dysrhythmias, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions 3. Certifications: BLS required (AHA not specified); ACLS preferred; must pass EKG testing prior to start 4. License: Active RN license required; NC or Compact license pending is OK for submittal 5. Education: Not specified 6. EMR: Epic experience required; Pyxis and SBAR also used 7. Shifts/Call: 12-hour nights; 36 or 48 hours accepted (no OT billed until after 48 hours if on 48-hour schedule); every other weekend required; floating to similar units and alternate care locations required; contract staff must be available for Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events 8. RTO: Up to 7 days auto approved (no holidays); must work 2 of 3 major holidays; no RTO during first week; all RTO must be pre-approved; no additional RTO requests after signing; RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite — call offs or additional RTO could result in cancellation and DNR 9. Returning Staff: Former Novant/New Hanover employees (permanent/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying; disclosure required with hospital name and dates employed; facility approval needed 10. Travel/Local: Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate; travel pairs allowed but must be on different units and disclosed; current travel per diem clinicians are not eligible for travel contracts — must choose one and include status and intent in submission 11.
