- Unit Notes:Department: MedSurg | RN - Unit: MedSurg - 5th Floor - # of Beds: 42 - Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5 occasional 1:6-very rarely happens - Required certifications: BLS, EKG certification - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Total joints, ortho-hip fx, spine surgeries-lumbar and cervical; Urology procedures, CBI; General surgeries- choles, bowel resections, complicated mastectomies; GYN overflow-total hysters; Medical overflow-COPD, some behavioral health, sepsis, infections. - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have 2 years of MedSurg experience. Must have EPIC experience. Must be able to read and interpret tele. Must be willing to take students, may precept new travelers- please note on interview they are willing. - Are RNs required to titrate drips: No. - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: heparin, PCAs, morphine drips. - Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift: Charge Nurse on each shift- very rarely takes patients but will if there is a need. Day shift also has an ADT nurse that helps with admits, discharges, and tasking. - Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit: yes- 1:8. - RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP-RT manages, high flow. - Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit: Virtual Tele techs. RNs are required to read and interpret own strips. Currently have SpaceLab but are transitioning to Philips by end of June. - Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hours 7-730. Scheduler will schedule travelers- no block scheduling. - Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts in a 6 week period- travelers are utilized to fill in gaps. - Holiday Requirement: yes- if there is a need. - Is there Call or a Standby requirement: n/a - Floating Requirements: Will float between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6 Can also go to any like units in Treasure Valley - Boise Medical Center 8mi away and Nampa Medical Center- both about 8 miles away. Could also float to ER for holds or to be a 1:1 - Scrub Color/Dress Code: Any color as long as clean and professional. - How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation: 3 days of general orientation including EPIC training and meeting with educator, will also have online modules to complete prior to start of assignment. 2 shifts on unit with a preceptor. **This facility has a radius rule of 50 miles.
