- Key Requirements Summary: 1. Experience: 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required; no exceptions. First-time travelers will NOT be accepted. 2. Cases: Comprehensive Stroke Center; patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis. Stroke patients are one of the largest patient populations. 3. Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS required; must pass EKG testing prior to start. 4. License: NC or Compact license; pending OK for submittal. 5. Education: Not specified. 6. EMR: Epic required; Pyxis and SBAR also used on unit. 7. Shifts/Call: 12-hour nights (18:45-07:15); 36 hours offered; 13-week contracts accepted. No call requirement. Float required. Every other weekend required. Ratios normally 2:1, can flex up to 3:1. Orientation is 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights). 8. RTO: Up to 7 days auto approved (no holidays). Must work 2 of 3 major holidays. No RTO during first week. All RTO must be pre-approved. Cannot request additional RTO after signing. Any call-offs or additional RTO could result in a cancel and DNR. 9. Returning Staff: Former Novant/New Hanover employees (permanent, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying. Disclosure required with hospital name and dates employed; facility approval needed. Current travel per diem clinicians are not eligible for travel contracts and must choose one; include status and intent in submission. 10. Travel/Local: Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate. Travel pairs allowed but must be on different units and disclosed. 11. Background: Not specified. 12. Modules: Pre-start modules are non-billable and must be completed before start date and annually. Acute Care: approximately 8-10 hours. Conducted online using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Module time should be margined separately from orientation hours. 13. Travel Experience: Yes, required; unit will not accept first-time travelers. 14. Scrubs: Navy blue and white. 15. Flu Vaccine: Required; medical and religious exemptions only. COVID-19 vaccine not required. 16. Special Equipment: EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun. Critical: Candidate must go into the lab within 48 hours after signing; all testing must be completed within 48 hours. Must have strong Neuro Critical Care background — general ICU experience alone is not acceptable. References can be pending at submission.
