- Unit Notes:Unit ER/ED Hospital Name CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital Nnorth Georgia Cost Center 251103805 Trauma Level? STEMI Receiving? Stroke Center? STEMI and Stroke receivinng facility, these are all transferred out for intervention. No trauma designation # of Beds/Trauma Bays 24 beds, including 4 behavioral health rooms and 2 critical care rooms. Do you have a Fast Track? we have a 9 chair vertical flow area Do you have a separate Triage area? If so, do you allow/require travelers to do Triage? yes, and yes Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER? no Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms? yes, 4 behavioral health safe rooms Is Security in-house 24/7? Housed in the ER? yes On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day? 70-80, this is still in flux since the facility just opened in January. Nurse:Patient Ratios 4:1 Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS?) BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS Common diagnoses/Types of patients: CP, Abdominal pain, SOB, uncontrolled DM, see all age groups, primarily fall between 20-90 yrs old. Large level 1 facility and childrens hospital 20 mins away, no OB services so there is occasional precip delivery. Experience or 'Must have' skills: ability to function in a fast paced department with lesss resources than large teaching or trauma facilities. Must be Adept with EPIC. Common drips: levo, epi, fentanyl, prop ED Physician &/or Mid-Levels staffed? Generally how many are on at a time? 1 ED physician at all times, peak hours have additional 2-3 midlevels Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? yes 24/7, will occasionally take patients mainly the BH patients. Are there nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters on each shift? Ratios? Duties? We have a sitter pool for behavioral health patients. We staff 1 PCT per shift. They transport patients, can perform phlebotomy, and transport patients. Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABGs, breathing Tx, & EKGs? yes, and yes RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? trouble shoot Do you have Tele/Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors? no, yes, GE X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport? yes, rad tech will come get patient unless stroke alert, or critical care requiring 1:1 RN Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RNs draw? RN draw Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) local staff self schedule, we do not garauntee scheduling for travelers but do try to accomodate as much as possible. I cannot guarantee block scheduling. Weekend Requirements Weekends are a possibility depending on shift, for 7a and 7p, we have significant Weekend option coverage so minimal requirements at this time. Holiday Requirements travelers are expected to help cover holidays unless negotiated in contract. Is there call or a standby requirement? no Floating Requirements yes, between the 3 memorial campuses. All within 20-25 of each other. This is to ensure hours, but would be very infrequent if ever. Scrub Color/Dress Code navy blue, plain or memorial branded sweatshirts are allowed. no hoodies. How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? 1st week they will receive two 8 hour hospital orientation shifts at the main campus, and two 12 hour clinical in unit orientation shifts with a preceptor Additional Notes This is not an assignment for a new ED nurse. It is fast paced, and they need to be self suficient and commfortable caring for high acuity patient population. Must be skilled in EPIC, and ideally worked in smaller fast paced facilites. We rarely board, but we do transfer a large number of patients due to criticality.
