- Unit Notes:Unit Medsurg # Beds 20 beds, Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:5 Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC (if ER nurse) Common diagnoses/Types of patients Falls, CHF, bowel obstruction, A-fib., Swingbed, and many more Experience or 'Must have' skills "Must Have: confident in skills like assessments, infusion pumps, medication administration, social skills, teamwork, and being reliable Prefer: ER experience, first-time traveler is ok" Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes and yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips Insulin, Heparin, Levophed, set rate: Amiodarone Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Mindray Monitors x8, nurses read strips each shifta nd document, no monitor techs Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? charge nurse 24/7, they don't take patient assignments as they cover the ER as well, no house Supervisor, nursing supervisor Mo-Fr Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes, CNAs and PCTs, they check VS, chart, and document I&Os, ADLs RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) no RT, Hamilton C1 ventilator with Cpap and BiPap, high-flow, do not keep ventilated patients, yes, nurses manage respiratory equipment and administer respiratory treatments Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling?
