- Unit Notes:***REQURED CERTS: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC*** Unit Medsurg # Beds 9 Med Surg rooms, 3 ER patient bays Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:5 with a CNA Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Common diagnoses/Types of patients Swing bed for Rehab, Med Surg for pain control, pneumonia, Hypertensive crisis, bowel obstruction, some cardiac Experience or 'Must have' skills Ability to admit, discharge, transfer patients, titrate medications, start IV's, work with PICC/Ports,participate in Codes: Cardiorespiratory, stroke, and sepsis, respond to traumas, Have Emergency Department experience to be able to float between MedSurg and ER. Should have experience. Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes to all Common titratable &/or set rate drips Insulin, amiodorone, cardizem, levophed Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? RNs are required to read their own strips and document. Mindray monitors. Complete EKGs Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? The lead is the highest seniority RN on schedule, we have minimal staffing for the Emergency dept and Medsurg, 2 licensed nurses and one CNA Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios CNA's complete hourly rounding, take blood sugars, vital signs and patient cares when scheduled RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) No RT, we have Bipap, high flow and a Hamilton T1 vent, these patients are usually transported to a higher level of care Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 6:45am-7:15pm, and 6:45p-7:15a. Every 3rd weekend and 3rd holiday. Schedules are posted 4-6 weeks out, schedule posted by manager Weekend Requirement Every 3rd weekend , rotate Days and nights, weekends are Friday Noc through Sunday Noc Holiday Requirement We require the holiday and work them into the perm staff rotation, follow the staff members schedule that they are filling in for. Is there Call or a Standby requirement? Oncall is voluntary for high patient loads, sometimes staff are put on call if census is low. Floating Requirements? This RN would float between Emergency Dept and MedSurg Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Scrubs no specialty colors Unit/Department specific orientation Typically one week but would evaluate skill level, ability to adapt quickly is needed. Additional Notes We care for patients from swing bed level all the way up to critical/trauma patients with the intent to transfer if beds available. We use flight transport frequently and need to follow EMTALA regulations. We utilize Meditech EMR. Nursing is the only 24 hour dept, ancillary depts are oncall weekends and night.
