Travel nurse labor and delivery is never boring

Labor and delivery travel nurse jobs provide some of the most interesting, triumphant, and heartbreaking moments – all packed into one shift. There are always more babies being born, so the demand for labor and delivery travel nurses is constant. This is especially true in large states like California, where hospitals are consistently listing L&D travel nurse jobs to supplement their permanent staff. 1. There’s so much autonomy. Obstetrical providers have busy OB/Gyn practices, and often make rounds in the morning, maybe at lunch, and then after their office closes. And of course, they come for delivery! This leaves you with a lot of nursing autonomy.
2. You get to work with a lot of women. Many of the nurses who work in obstetrics are women, not to mention all of your patients. There is some serious sisterly bonding going on.
3. You don’t have to float to other units. Most obstetrical units are closed units, which means people don’t float.
4. Teamwork is the name of the game. This is true of nursing in general, but teamwork is especially important in OB. Almost every hospital has central monitoring, so you rely on each other to watch each other’s fetal monitoring strips.
5. Work with the same providers over and over again. Depending on the size of the hospital, you usually work with a select group of physicians and midwives. Even as a travel nurse, you will still get to know providers very well over the course of an assignment.
6. See moms bond with their babies. It doesn’t matter how many deliveries you get to see, there is something so special watching a mother meet and hold their baby for the first time.
7. It’s (usually) a happy time. One of the greatest things about L&D is that it’s usually a very happy place to be!
8. You epitomize nursing. Labor and delivery nurses kind of epitomize the nursing profession with traits such as being nurturing, compassionate, and motherly.
9. The education you provide affects the whole family. It’s very humbling to know that the education you provide during such a monumental time in a woman’s life has the ability to impact her whole family.
10. Witness the miracle of labor and delivery. There is something absolutely magical about witnessing the birth of a baby.  Every time you get to see it, you’ll know you have the coolest job ever.
