- 2 years’ experience
- Must be able to do a vaginal exam (if come from teaching facility-they have less skill since medical students/residents do these)
- Scalp electrodes, Circulate a C-section, Newborn transitions, Assist anesthesiology, IV starts, Blood draws, APGARS assignments-must know, Postpartum hemorrhage control- SIM lab coming-fall 2023, Epidurals, Amnio infusion. Water birth-not a must have, just for knowledge
- BLS, NRP, AWOHNN-Intermediate or Advanced
- Spinning babies experience preferred
- Floating Requirements: NICU/Peds/Womens as well as MedSurg or ICU with appropriate patient assignment- downgraded, or RDU. L&D nurses may be assigned antepartum patients.
- They have to be able to take care of baby for two hours after delivery. If they do not have post partum experience they won’t be sent there but they have to be prepared that they will take care of antepartum patients.
- Do you follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios: Try to follow 1:1 or 1:2, 2 patients is pretty common.
